BESA Summer Banquet

Join BESA for our biggest event of the year: the BESA annual summer banquet. This year, we will be heading to Scaddabush Italian Kitchen (382 Yonge St.) to enjoy a three course à la carte dinner and drinks with our fellow students and guests.

When: Thursday July 27th, 6 pm
Where: 382 Yonge St. (15 min walk from RS)
Dress code: Semi-formal
Tickets: Early bird $25 (sign up by July 19); Regular $30; Guest $35

BESA Cooking Workshop: May 30 (6 – 8pm)

Sick of those frozen pizza dinners night after night? Join BESA for a delectable experience at Loblaws Cooking School. This hands-on, 2-hour cooking workshop includes a 3-course Italian dinner, with 2 courses made by participants under the guidance of a professional chef.
Cost: $20 (sign up by May 20) or $25 after May 20
When: Tuesday May 30, 6-8PM
Where: 60 Carlton Street (13min walk from RS)
Menu:
Appetizer – Proscuitto et pere (prosciutto with fresh pear, aged balsamic, baby arugula, shaved parmesan)
Main Course – Chicken parmigiana with roasted potatoes and seasonal vegetables
Dessert – Tiramisu

Toronto Rehab Tour (April 27th, 12pm)

Toronto Rehab is home to some of the world’s most technologically advanced rehabilitation research facilities. The iDAPT Centre for Rehabilitation Research is a unique space where ideas can be cultivated and tested in a real-life setting. Tuesday April 4: BESA Industry Night

Come learn about a growing medical technology company, Interface Biologics (IBI), with an exclusive tour of its facility. The IBI tour was previously cancelled due to an illness but has been re-scheduled for April 4th at 5 PM. Register now as there are only 15 spots.

BESA goes to a Toronto Raptors Game

BESA is going to a Raptors game on at the end of March when they face Charlotte Hornets in Air Canada Centre. BESA only has 10 tickets which will be sold on first come, first served basis. Email Mosa Alhamami <mosa.alhamami@mail.utoronto.ca> as soon as possible to purchase your ticket. BESA members are strongly encouraged to buy tickets before Friday, March 24th 12pm as after this, tickets will be available to non-BESA members.

Policy and Innovation Initiative’s 1st Hackathon

Hosted by the School of Public Policy, the hackathon aims to explore and pose solutions to some of the most difficult Public Health issues Ontario faces such as alleviating pressures in downtown hospitals and exploring the viability of alternative models for delivering medicine. The Hackathon will comprise of graduate students of public policy, public health, urban planning, engineering, and computer science, as well as public servants and those interested in policy in general. Catered food and coffee will be provided!

Ghana Medical Help Equipment Packing Party

Ghana Medical Help is an organization dedicated to providing medical aid to hospitals in the most northern regions of Ghana to save lives and increase the quality of healthcare available. They are holding their annual equipment donation packing party and they are currently looking for volunteers to help sort, pack, and prepare all of their frontline medical equipment for shipment to partner hospitals in Ghana. Engineering World Health Workshop 2: Solder & Build

Come out for a hands on workshop and to build your own digital thermometer! Introduction will focus on the modular approach to engineering design and its importance for sustainable and cost effective devices.
